1. Session

“Until now, we have always gotten support for our children, other projects were not interested in how mothers feel and their emotions. The training were conducted for a couple of hours, the importance of acceptance were explained, but this project will be different, so I thank you all.”

Session Content and Flow

  • A. The importance of the project were shared with the families. They were informed that their participation was valuable.
  • B. It were observed that group is dynamic, active and energic.

Participants were asked the following questions;

  • Have you ever gotten psychological support for yourself? (They have stated that they did not previously get support for themselves, but only got support for their children from psychologists in institutions.)
  • What are your thoughts on the project? Do you think such a study is necessary?
  • What did you feel and think when you found out that your child had special needs? Have you gotten any support in this process? Are there people you expect to support you, but don’t support you and you feel lonely because of this, or are there people that you are still angry at-resentful towards-disappointed with?
  • At the end of the group sessions, participants were given an assignment to plan the next session.“What are the problems you experience with your children? How do you feel when you’re experiencing these problems? How would you describe your emotions (sadness-anxiety-anger, etc.).

2. Session

Session Content and Flow

  • A. After the group formation was established, feedback was received from the participants. How was your last week? Have you had any problems during the week?
  • B. What did you learn last week? How did you feel after the session ended?
  • C. What are your expectations from the sessions? What would you like to learn?

The answers to this question revealed the need for conducting studies in subjects such as Anger Management Problems” and “to strengthen the bond between individuals with special needs and their mothers”.

Attention practice assignment: Tell your child that you will play a game today in a fun and exciting manner. Go to any room in your home and tell your child; Now I want you to look at this room carefully for 1 minute. Where are the objects? What’s on the coffee table? Make sure he/she pays attention to the objects in the room by asking what items are on the table etc. After 1 minute is over tell your child to wait behind the door of the room and move an item from its place to another place. Let’s see if you can find it? If you find it, we’ll do something that you like today. The families were informed that at the end of the game children should be rewarded. A food or a game that your child will love.
